Guest speaker David Diaz will present an overview of research and development he is leading on new open-source tools and technologies for forest mapping and stewardship planning. This work includes applying computer vision to delineate and classify forest stands using publicly available imagery and a new web app, Landmapper, that was just launched by Ecotrust in Oregon (with guidance from Oregon Small Woodlands Association, Oregon Tree Farm System, and OSU Extension) to automatically create maps and tables required for Forest Management Plans.
David Diaz is Director of Forestry Technology & Analytics at Ecotrust, and a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences, University of Washington.
